We are excited to invite you to participate in the 2026 European Democratic Education Community’s (EUDEC) annual conference in beautiful İzmir, Türkiye, from July 30 to August 6, 2026.
Annual conference is the highlight of EUDEC calendar, bringing together scholars and volunteers active in democratic education from across the globe. It is a space to share research, exchange ideas, and foster intellectual growth while discussing collaborative projects to make democratic education accessible to more children and communities worldwide.
The conference is also a wonderful opportunity to meet friends, explore world-renowned historical sites like Ephesus, and play and have fun together. Since 2008, EUDEC has served as a hub for innovation and collaboration among democratic schools globally.
“Learning in Relationship: Trusting Children and Building Communities”
Our 2026 theme explores how we can appreciate learning together while deepening our trust in children and our communities.
Rooted in the belief that “Education is not mainly preparation for future life; it is life itself,” we will explore how school subjects connect to real-life experiences, how to create miniature democracies in schools, and how to humanize the roles of teachers and administrators.
Academic Strand
For scholars pursuing in-depth theoretical explorations and field research.
Non-Academic Strand
For practitioners in profit or non-profit organizations expanding democratic education.
We encourage everyone who has insights or research to inspire others to submit their proposals. The academic form is for scholars who do research in the field for further theoretical explorations, while the non-academic form is for people who are actively working both in profit or non-profit organizations for the expansion of democratic education.
